Radical Candor

The content delivers on the title. Radical Candor is all about two things.

  1. Caring personally
  2. Confronting directly

Map those two things onto two axises and you get a plot of the four camps you can dwell in. You want to be in the upper right, which is “radical candor”.

Care personally without confronting directly: “ruinous empathy”. Confront directly without caring personally: “obnoxious aggression”. Lacking in both: “manipulative insincerity”.

There’s a lot more fleshed out in the book. While the focus is on management, the principles seem helpful in many more contexts.
